Temporary COVID-19 POD Vaccinator

If this is you, we invite you to apply to one of our temporary City of Alexandria Vaccination site opportunities – one of which is Vaccinator. Work as a team with Vaccinator Assistant to ensure best practices in vaccine administration, education, safety, and efficient vaccine throughput in a mass vaccine POD (Point of Distribution) setting.

The Opportunity – Examples of Duties

  • Participate in daily POD manager operational briefing and clinical supervisor briefing.

  • Stay updated daily on written guidance provided by clinical supervisor in vaccine administration.

  • Assess patient medical history, provide education, and administer vaccines per best practices and assess patient following vaccination.

  • Provide privacy measures as needed or as requested by patient.

  • Be responsive to signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis or other vaccine reactions and apply medical interventions as appropriate.

  • Input vaccines into an electronic medical record using a tablet.

  • Fill out and provide vaccine record cards to patients.

  • Work with Vaccinator Assistant in a team approach in expediting the vaccine visit.

  • Attend and participate in any after action meetings to discuss what POD activities went well and what POD activities could use improvement.

Job Requirements
The Ideal Candidate

To be minimally qualified for this position, all applicants must have experience giving vaccines or other injections. Must be licensed in the State of Virginia.

Examples of the types of licenses that will qualify include licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician’s Assistant (PA), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D), Medical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS).

To be considered an ideal candidate, applicants must possess the above as well as: attention to detail; ability to multi-task; be flexible and function well under stressful pressured situations; ability to problem-solve independently and use de-escalation skills; ability to anticipate future needs of staff and clients and take the initiative to address those needs; excellent communication skills with colleagues; and high-level customer service skills with the public and community organizations. Medical Reserve Corps Experience preferred.

*Please note that this is a 90 day temporary position, with the possibility of an extension.


Typically 7:30AM-5:30PM. Days variable and will include weekend days. Total hours per week may range from 10-40 hours. Preference given to individuals willing to work multiple shifts per week and up to 40 hours. Must be flexible with work schedule, as hours and days are subject to change depending on vaccine availability.


Will receive training in Incident Command Structure (ICS) and following chain of command, HIPAA compliance, Biosafety and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and POD (Point of Dispensing) structure and procedures. Will need to complete online training relevant to COVID-19 vaccination and complete an in-person skills check.

Will be fit tested and wear an N95 respirator and face shield or goggles in a clinic setting.
