Job Description

About the Job

Ø The Teacher position reports to the Early Learning Director or Assistant Early Learning Director. The Teacher is responsible for the implementation of lesson plans and all classroom activities that meet the child’s social, physical, emotional, and mental growth within a developmental framework.

Some of the exciting things you will do as a Teacher include but are not limited to:

Ø Implements the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA, the School Age Curriculum

Ø Effectively carries out appropriate lesson plans that can be followed by staff

Ø Establishes structure and routines for children setting boundaries and behavior guidelines

Ø Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary

Ø Attends parent/child events as required

Ø Effectively communicates with parents throughout the program year

Ø Maintains an attractive and clean classroom at all times

Ø Other duties as required

Working Conditions:

Ø Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time

Ø Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children

Ø Must be able to pick up at least 35 pounds

Ø Must have visual acuity to observe all children

Job Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:

Ø Must be at least 20 years of age

Ø Must have a high school diploma or GED

Ø Must obtain CDA within 18 months of employment

Ø Current CPR and First Aid Certification

Ø 15 credit hours (per jurisdictional guideline) or 90-hour certificate or CDA

Ø Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test

Ø Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting

Ø Must meet the county/state licensing requirements

Ø Must have one year of teaching experience in a licensed center
