Job Description

Overview:    Meals on Wheels (MOW) Delivery Drivers deliver meals to homebound seniors Monday through Friday in the City of Alexandria. As meals are delivered, drivers will greet clients and report back any unusual circumstances/observations via the mobile application Mobile Meals. Further instructions will be provided.

This position reports to the Director of Meal Programs. Normal working hours are 9:45am – 12:45pm, Monday – Friday. MOW Delivery Driver will be assigned a route which they will deliver every weekday.

 

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, strict protocols based on government health and safety guidelines are in place to protect the staff, volunteers, and clients. These protocols must always be followed; however, we cannot guarantee zero exposure to COVID-19. Routes may include clients who require brief home entry. Personal Protective Equipment and a detailed guide of protocols will be provided. We are proud to say that we adopted safety practices before they were mandated and have had zero cases of delivers with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19. Virginia and City of Alexandria Health Departments consider MOW delivery low risk for COVID-19 exposure.

 

Responsibilities
  1. Pick up meals and route information at Jeffery’s Catering at 9:45am Monday – Friday. Maintain food temperatures by keeping food in the containers provided and keeping them closed during transport.

  2. Call client before delivery for wellness check. Deliver one hot and one cold meal to each household unless instructed otherwise. Use the provided tray table when possible to deliver meals for no contact delivery. Delivery may occasionally require home entry.

  3. Return empty containers and route notebook to the food vendor location. Extra Meals are delivered as directed by the Onsite Coordinator.

  4. Report any problems, expressed client needs or concerns to the On-Site Volunteer Coordinator, Program Manager or Volunteer Leader via phone and Mobile Meals.

  5. On occasion, deliver notices to clients.

  6. Strictly follow all COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Job Requirements
MOW Delivery Driver must:
1) Have a personal vehicle to use for delivery.
2) Pass a criminal background check.
3) Have a valid driver’s license.
4) Have current car insurance that meets Virginia law.
5) Own a smartphone to use Mobile Meals for meal delivery.
