Job Description


News Anchors are responsible for presenting stories with fairness, accuracy and balance presentation. Responsibilities include:

Job Duties

· Enterprise news stories

· Shoot, write and edit newsworthy events including breaking/spot news, general news, sports and feature stories relevant to the Washington, D.C. community

· Cover all news stories as assigned by the News Department

· Produce original content for Digital Platforms

· Report/anchor from field, live shots, interviews, and package stories

· Provide input to the show producer on show content and format

· Record daily topicals

· Perform live interviews and/or live demonstrations

· Research, plan, and schedule stories or segments

· Write scripts, lead-ins, cues and bridges

· May make appearances before social and civic groups and at schools and colleges on behalf of the station

· Anchor special projects and non-news shows

· Provide coaching and input on stories to other staff members

· Active on social media

· Develop and pitch story ideas

Basic Qualifications

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Multimedia Journalist

· Minimum of 4 years of anchoring experience in a local station or network news environment

· Bilingual (English/Spanish) both written and verbal

· Bachelor’s Degree in broadcast Journalism or equivalents work experience

· Must be willing to work in Washington, D.C.

· Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

· Must be 18 years or older

· Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays or overnights as required

· Must have valid driver’s license

· Strong live reporting skills

· Strong storytelling skills

· Ability to ad-lib effortlessly in various types of situations, particularly breaking news

· Ability to communicate effectively and work well with people

· Knowledge of laws of libel, slander and applicable FCC rules and regulations

· Skilled writer with outstanding communication skills

· Self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision

· Team player who can also work independently and is a self-starter

· High degree of integrity and professionalism
